Joint Proprioception after ACL Reconstruction (Comparison between B-P-B and Semitendinosus Graft)

Abstract
To compare the proprioception ability of tibial stump-retaining semitendinosus and tibial stump-sacrificing B-P-B graft in the ACL reconstruction, proprioception was measured in the knee of the 28 patients after reconstruction of the ACL by semitendinosus(14 patients)and B-P-B(14 patients) graft.
Joint pjosition sense was determined by two common techniques that measure the threshold to of motion threshold value and the ability to reproduce passive knee positioning.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The B-P-B graft group showed mean difference of 0.52¡Æ(normal side; 2.17¡Æ, reconstruction side;2.69¡Æ) for the threshold value and 4.27(normal side;6.14¡Æreconstruction side; 10.41¡Æ) for the reproduction inaccuracy).
2. The semitendinosus group showed mean difference of 0.29¡Æ(normal side;2.08¡Æ, reconstruction side;2.37¡Æ) for the threshold value and 1.32¡Æ(normal side;6.19¡Æ, reconstruction side;7.51¡Æ) for the reproduction inaccuracy.
3. There was a decline in joint position sense in -B-P-B graft group (Thresheld was increased in the B-P-B graft group) compared with the semitendinosus graft group(p=0.04). The mean reproduction value of the B-P-B graft group was higher than
the semitendinosus group)(p=0.001).
4. It seems likely that retension of tibial stump would lead to the beneficial results of proprioception.
